Basketball fans might be upset about contract dispute

The NCAA championships were just about to get underway this past week when fans in a region beyond California were suddenly unable to view the television station that was set to carry the first few games. It seems a contract dispute between a CBS affiliate and AT&T U-verse cable was the cause. CBS was pulled from the viewing line-up days before the basketball tournament was set to begin.

The owner of the CBS affiliate station said the central focus of the ongoing contract dispute is how much the cable company will pay to carry the station in more than 20 cities. Customers who view CBS through AT&T U-verse cable will not be able to access the station until the conflict is resolved. Some say it's a good thing the local schools' teams won't be playing in the earliest games of the tournament that are schedule to broadcast on CBS.

Many times, it takes skilled negotiations to achieve fair and agreeable outcomes when disputes of this nature arise. Company owners often hire business and commercial law attorneys to represent them in such situations. In circumstances where a valid contract already exists, and a party or parties fails to adhere to its terms, it can be especially challenging to obtain a swift and satisfactory solution.

Hopefully, the contract problem between CBS and the cable company in North Carolina will not remain unresolved for too long. Anyone in California facing similar contract problems may request assistance from an experienced business attorney. One of the first things an attorney can do is make sure everyone involved clearly understands the obligations and responsibilities contained in an agreement. If a contract has not yet been signed, an attorney can help overcome any obstacles causing a delay.
