Animal shelter in middle of business contract dispute

Businesses need to make sure to do what they can to fulfill the terms agreed to in contracts. This can mean contracts made with consumers, other businesses or even the government. Failure to do so can result in a business contract dispute in California.

One animal shelter seems to have recently found itself in the middle of this type of situation. Apparently, the business is being accused of breaching a contract with the local city government. The animal shelter contracts with the county government and the city government to collect dogs and cats that have been collected by animal welfare officers of each government.

The animal shelter has recently announced that it will no longer be accepting dogs and cats at its facility. The county government is now accusing the non-profit animal shelter of breaching its contracts with the city and county governments. The animal shelter is accused of not giving any prior notice before making the announcement in late July. However, the animal shelter countered by arguing that what the governments pay the business does not come close to covering the operational costs of servicing the contracts.

Although there has yet to be any reports of a lawsuit filed as a result of the business contract dispute, this may be what will happen in the near future. If this does turn out to be the case, the animal shelter will have to think about a plan to defend itself in the court of law. Just like in any breach of contract lawsuit in California, this will require applying knowledge of contract law to the specific situation.
