Some say Trump is skeptical about proposed business merger

The United States Senate is about to get an earful from AT&T executives and others from Time Warner Inc. The chief executive officers of both enterprises are planning to try to sell the Senate on the idea of a new business merger between them. Outside sources say that President-elect Donald Trump and others (perhaps some in California) are not be too happy about the idea.

AT&T representative Randall Stephenson is slated to appear before the antitrust panel to discuss the proposed $85.4 billion business merger. Those opposed to the idea claim the deal would be placing too much power into the hands of just a few. Stephenson reportedly stated that he is confident the Senate will approve the deal regardless of current opposition.

The Time Warner conglomerate already includes CNN, HBO, professional basketball and the Harry Potter franchise. The merger would combine assets of this entertainment mogul with those of the country's second largest telecommunications company. The idea is to merge the information distribution efforts of the latter with the production efforts of the former.

The Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust is not authorized by law to make a ruling on the proposal. However, members are expected to use the platform to ask the executives pressing questions regarding future plans, such as whether they will share content with other cable network providers and online video venues. Any business person in California in need of guidance concerning a proposed merger or acquisition may address concerns by consulting with an experienced business and commercial law attorney.
