Band members victorious in contract dispute with record company

For the past five years, the heavy metal rock band "A Day to Remember" has been engaged in a court battle with Victory Records in another state. Similar to many lawsuits involving the music industry in California, the contract dispute involved allegations that the band owed the record company money. Victory Records also claimed band members were obligated to perform several more album releases in order to fulfill the obligations included in the signed agreement.

A jury recently determined otherwise. The court then ordered that Victory Records pay A Day to Remember approximately $4 million in withheld royalties and other proceeds. The jury found that the band had met all of its obligations and responsibilities according to the contract.

Apparently, several re-releases and live performances the band provided counted toward the promised release schedule. A band spokesperson told reporters that members are anticipating an appeal to be filed on behalf of Victory Records. For now, the band is very satisfied with the jury's decision.

Most business people hope to avoid drawn out court battles regarding contract problems. An experienced business and commercial law attorney may be able to help a concerned party achieve an amicable agreement, sometimes without even stepping foot into a courtroom. Many attorneys are skilled and experienced negotiators who can help business clients protect their interests and obtain reasonable solutions to contract dispute problems. To begin the process in California, one can request a meeting with a business attorney to discuss a particular issue and explore whatever options might be available toward a swift and economically feasible solution.
