Teachers' contract dispute in state outside California continues

Throughout the nation, school students recently enjoyed their final days of the school year and said good-bye to teachers and classmates for the summer. Faculty members often do the same. However, in one school district outside California, a contentious contract dispute has been brewing.

Although, faculty members have successfully avoided a strike so far, there are rumors that if certain issues aren't addressed in a satisfactory manner, a strike vote may occur in August 2016. Teachers actually worked without a contract this year, and they apparently still have not reached an agreeable solution with the school board. The main contract dispute concerns of the teachers include resources, classroom staffing and pay.

In the school year ending in 2012, the teachers reportedly gave up pay, for which they are now asking to be compensated. As part of their requests, they have asked for a 2.5 percent pay increase. This increase would be issued in increments, over the span of several years.

A representative of the school board stated that the board is doing its best to resolve the issues and consider all requests made by the teachers in a very careful manner. Another spokesman seemed to think the pay increase request was out of the district's financial league. The teachers have given their word that they will not strike, so long as the school board is willing to return to negotiations. If an amicable resolution is not reached by the start of the new school year, students may end up without teachers.

Someone in California facing similar employer/employee issues may benefit from contacting an experienced attorney for guidance and to learn more about his or her options.
