Radio station in contract dispute with radio host in California

The entertainment business is not all fun and games. Although most people see the lighter side of the entertainment business, it is still a business. As such, the terms of legal contracts are often essential for a company in this industry. When a contract dispute does arise, it can result in a lawsuit. This seems to be the case in a recent dispute between a radio personality and a radio station in California.

The dispute arose between Emmis Radio LLC and the radio station's morning host. The company filed a breach of contract lawsuit against the 45-year-old radio host. Apparently, the radio host is planning to take an offer from iHeartMedia, which is competing radio station. Emmis Radio alleges that by accepting the offer from its competitor, the radio host is in breach of the terms of his contract with Emmis Radio.

The contract contains a provision which allows Emmis Radio to match any offers from competing radio stations before the radio host is allowed to accept the competitor's offer. The lawsuit alleges that the radio host accepted the offer from iHeartMedia despite Emmis Radio matching the offer. The contract between the radio host and Emmis Radio is set to expire in late February. Along with monetary damages, the plaintiff is asking that the court prevent the radio host from joining the competing company.

It is unfortunate that this contract dispute in California could not be resolved directly between Emmis Radio and the radio host. However, it is within the company's right to take legal action in order to protect its business interests. On the other hand, sometimes winning a lawsuit is not a simple task and can require significant preparation time and expense. The fact that the contract is apparently set to expire at the end of the month may be a relevant factor. Ultimately, the judge will decide the case based upon the evidence presented as it applies to applicable law.
